From our base in Poole, we operate a fleet of specialised commercial workboats and barges throughout UK and northern European waters; serving dredging, marine construction, transportation, energy, research and salvage market sectors.
About this role:
Hours: Full Time, requires flexibility to work away from home for extended periods.
Location: Poole Dorset
Working onboard UK registered workboats / tugs, operating in the local area, around the UK coast and occasionally the EU.
We are looking for a reliable, hardworking and conscientious individual, with a friendly and professional manner, to serve as a vessel Master/mate alongside our experienced Vessel crews onboard our dredgers and workboats.
Ultimately, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and equipment, including deck work with deck crane and winches, slinging/unslinging, mooring lines, navigational watches and general vessel maintenance.
You will ensure that your assigned vessel and all related equipment is maintained in a clean, safe and reliable condition, completing safety and navigational checks, and ensuring everything is in order ready for operation at a moment’s notice.
When working on board a vessel, you will work as vessel master, mate or deck crew, depending on the needs of the project and your experience. You will assist in the vessels documentation management and administration, following company policy and procedures.
About you:
You will enjoy working on board a vessel at sea and are looking to develop your seamanship, engineering skills and experience on commercial workboats.
You will be a great team worker, able to anticipate the needs of your colleagues when on board and an excellent communicator; co-ordinating important and complex information to relevant individuals.
However, you will also need to be self-motivated and pro-active in your approach to tasks and able to work independently when needed. The position requires an individual who is able to think on their feet whilst always keeping the contract delivery and health and safety requirements at the forefront of their mind. You will also need to be comfortable and able to work away from home for periods of time.
Qualifications & Accreditations Required
Essential
· Previous experience working as Master/Mate onboard tugs/workboats or fishing vessels.
. RYA/MCA CoC e.g Yachtmaster offshore power with commercial endorsement or 200GT Code vessel or equivalent or higher.
· Holds current valid STCW basic safety training courses, completed within last 5 years.
· Valid ENG1 seafarers Medical certificate with no restrictions.
· MCA approved stability awareness, radar and electronic chart plotter and navigation course completion certificates.
· Eligibility to work in the UK. Schengen/EU VISA/Passport.
· Fluent in spoken and written English Language.
· Ability to cook own meals (and take turns cooking with other crew).
Desirable
· AEC or other engineering certificate + Other ancillary commercial vessel certificates.
· UK resident preferred, south coast as HQ is based in Poole, Dorset.
· Previous experience with deck cranes/lifting machinery/deck winches or working on fishing vessels.
· Hold a qualification to operate deck crane / slinger signaller.

Schedule:
- 8.5hr/day, 42.5hr week, Monday to Friday 0800 – 1700hrs, basic minimum (when working in Poole).
- 12 hour shift, 7 days/week (when working away on vessels)
