SEND Teaching Assistant – Clacton On Sea

We are currently seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join supportive schools across the Clacton/Tendring area. Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and other learning difficulties. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff, you will help create a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 support and small group interventions for students with SEND.
- Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum and engaging in classroom activities.
- Support students with their academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Implement individual learning plans and strategies set by teaching staff and SEN professionals.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours.
- Support classroom management and help maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
- Build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers where appropriate.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and support staff.
- Assist with personal care needs where required, depending on the setting.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is highly desirable.
- A genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs and helping them succeed.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, resilience, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also using your own initiative.
- Relevant qualifications, training, or experience in education, childcare, health and social care, psychology, or a related field are advantageous but not essential.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
