Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable, thorough and caring Domestic Worker/Housekeeper to join our team in our small, family-run 31-bed residential care home, which also supports residents living with dementia. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our residents, staff, and visitors. This role requires a conscientious individual who takes pride in high standards of cleanliness, understands infection control principles, and can work sensitively within a care setting.
Responsibilities
- Carry out daily cleaning duties in resident bedrooms, en-suite facilities, communal lounges, dining areas, corridors and staff areas, following agreed schedules.
- Ensure high standards of infection prevention and control, including correct use of cleaning chemicals, sanitising high-touch surfaces, and following colour-coded cleaning procedures.
- Change bed linen, launder items where required, and ensure resident rooms are left tidy, safe and comfortable.
- Safely empty bins, manage waste disposal and follow appropriate clinical and household waste segregation guidelines.
- Maintain and clean all housekeeping equipment, reporting defects or concerns promptly.
- Replenish supplies such as toilet rolls, soap, hand towels and cleaning materials as required.
- Support deep-clean routines, including periodic cleaning of carpets, furniture, curtains, mattresses and less accessible areas.
- Work respectfully around residents, being mindful of individual needs, routines and personal space—especially when working in rooms of residents living with dementia.
- Follow all health and safety, COSHH, and infection control procedures consistently.
- Report any maintenance issues, hazards or safeguarding concerns to senior staff immediately.
- Work collaboratively with the care team to maintain a homely, comfortable and safe living environment.
- Participate in training as required to maintain skills and comply with care home regulations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience in housekeeping, domestic work or commercial cleaning is desirable.
- Experience or familiarity with cleaning procedures in a care home, hospital, or similar environment is advantageous.
- Understanding of infection control, colour-coding systems, COSHH, and safe chemical handling (training can be provided).
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively and complete tasks to a consistently high standard.
- Strong attention to detail, with pride in creating a clean and comfortable environment for vulnerable adults.
- Good communication skills and a compassionate, respectful attitude toward residents.
- Reliability, punctuality and the ability to follow procedures and schedules.
- Willingness to undertake mandatory training relevant to care home settings.
