Job Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Chef de Partie / Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at The Mortimer Arms. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced chef who is passionate about hospitality, high-quality food, and delivering exceptional guest dining experiences within a busy hotel environment.
The successful candidate will support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring consistently high standards across breakfast, lunch, dinner, events, and hotel guest dining. The role requires strong leadership skills, excellent organisation, and the ability to perform efficiently within a fast-paced hospitality setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef with the daily operation of the hotel kitchen
- Prepare and cook high-quality dishes in line with hotel standards and guest expectations
- Support the delivery of breakfast, restaurant service, functions, events, and room service where required
- Supervise kitchen staff during service to ensure smooth and efficient operations
- Maintain high standards of food presentation, quality, and consistency
- Ensure all food hygiene, health, and safety procedures are followed at all times
- Assist with stock control, ordering, and minimising food waste
- Help train and mentor junior chefs and kitchen assistants
- Work closely with front-of-house teams to ensure excellent guest service and communication
- Maintain a clean, organised, and professional kitchen environment
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie or Sous Chef within a hotel, restaurant, or hospitality environment
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and food safety standards
- Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure during busy service periods
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Strong leadership and teamworking abilities
- Passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional guest experiences
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the business
- A positive attitude, reliability, and professional approach
