Overview
We are seeking a skilled Asphalt Paver Screwman / Paver Operative to join our construction team. The roles primary function is to control the screed on an asphalt paving machine, meticulously adjusting the depth, camber, and thickness of the laid material to ensure a uniform, smooth finish.
The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy machinery operation, a good understanding of construction processes, and the ability to work safely in a dynamic environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-quality resurfacing projects while developing your skills within the industry.
Duties:
- Operate the asphalt paver and associated machinery, including screw mechanisms, to lay asphalt according to project specifications
- Assist with the setup and calibration of paving equipment prior to commencement of work
- Monitor the flow of asphalt material, ensuring consistent application and quality standards are maintained
- Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance on machinery, including mechanical checks and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with the paver crew to ensure smooth operation and adherence to safety protocols
- Support in manoeuvring excavators or other heavy plant as required for site preparation or material handling
- Follow health and safety regulations diligently, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Proven experience operating asphalt pavers, with specific knowledge of screw mechanisms preferred
- Mechanical knowledge related to heavy machinery operation and maintenance
- Experience with excavators and other construction plant is advantageous
- Strong understanding of health and safety procedures within construction environments
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in outdoor conditions, often over long shifts
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
- FULL UK Driving Licence (Essential)
- Valid CSCS Card (Essential)
- At least 2 years' experience as a screwman (Essential)
- Street Works Card (Desirable)
- EUSR Card (Desirable)
- NPORS Card (Desirable)
- Clear of alcohol and drugs when reporting for work (we have a zero tolerance policy and regular testing takes place)
