Hours: Monday to Friday | 8:30am – 4:00pm
Daily Rate: £99.68 – £110 per day (depending on experience)
A supportive and well-established Alternative Provision in the London Borough of Bromley is seeking an experienced, resilient and compassionate 1:1 Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team immediately on a full-time, long-term basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and making a genuine difference within a specialist educational setting.
The provision supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including:
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
- ADHD
- Challenging behaviours
With small class sizes of typically up to 8 pupils, staff are able to provide a more personalised, supportive and structured learning environment.
The Role
As a 1:1 Behaviour Support Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance throughout the school day. You will work closely with students who may become dysregulated, helping them feel safe, understood and engaged in learning.
Due to the needs of the pupils, valid Team Teach training is essential. Some students may present physically challenging behaviour and require calm, safe and appropriate de-escalation strategies in line with safeguarding procedures and positive handling training.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with SEMH and additional needs
- Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with students
- Support emotional regulation and behaviour management in a calm, non-judgemental manner
- Use Team Teach strategies appropriately when required
- Encourage participation and engagement in learning activities
- Support pupils with classwork and emotional wellbeing
- Promote a safe, nurturing and structured environment
- Work collaboratively with teachers, behaviour teams and external professionals
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding and pupil welfare at all times
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Valid Team Teach training (essential)
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASC, PDA, ADHD or challenging behaviours
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- A calm, patient and resilient approach
- The ability to remain professional under pressure
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
