Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Night Calver to join our team, responsible for dealing with calving cows of our 500 cow block calving dairy herd during overnight periods. The herd calves from end of July to mid November. The position is for approximately 6 weeks to cover our busiest period from mid August to end of September, however this can be flexible.
Typical working hours would be 9/10pm to 4/5am for 6 days per week. Work would involve regular checking of dry cow accommodation and moving calving cows to straw pens for calving (we operate a snatch calving system). It would then entail dealing with the new born calf (feeding colostrum, tagging, moving to calf shed) and also the newly calved cow (oral rehydration and transfer to milking cow group).
We have accommodation in the form of a static caravan on farm with all utilities and rent paid for.
