We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Lifeguard to start as soon as possible at Pompey Health & Fitness Club, located at Portsmouth Football Club's training ground.
The role of a Lifeguard is essential to our Health club users, to offer reassurance to swimmers, a warm and friendly environment for our guests, and to make a difference to the experience for our guests and members throughout the club.
We are looking for an outgoing and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about customer care as you may the first person our members and guests meet on arrival in the health club. You will be able to demonstrate professionalism and self-motivation, have the ability to remain calm under pressure and have a keen awareness of health & safety considerations. You will also be committed to achieving the highest standards of cleanliness, maintenance and safety.
Previous experience working in the leisure industry would be a distinct advantage, as would holding a current NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification). However for someone demonstrating the required characteristics, full training is available to help you achieve the necessary qualification. Please note that an Enhanced DBS Check will be carried out upon commencement in the role.
The responsibilities of a Lifeguard include:
- Carrying out reception duties including taking membership enquiries;
- meeting and greeting members and guests;
- lifeguarding;
- working effectively as part of a team to ensure a friendly, fun and safe environment for members, guests and colleagues.

It is essential that you are a competent swimmer, and candidates will be asked to perform a swimming assessment as part of the selection process.
The hours are part-time and flexible in order to meet the needs of the 7-day shift rota - it is expected that there would be availability for 1-4 shifts per week (up to 30 hours per week), primarily evenings and weekends, along with daytime shifts during school holidays.
