About the Role
Axcis are working in partnership with a well-established SEND school in Ealing to recruit a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
The school operates across two sites: a primary provision in Greenford and a secondary provision in Northolt, supporting pupils aged 4–19 years. Staff may be based at one site or required to work across both locations, depending on the needs of the school.
This is a full-time position commencing in September 2026. For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to attend a paid trial before the summer break, with the potential to secure the role ahead of the September start.
Key Responsibilities
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with complex medical, physical, and learning needs within a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with PMLD and complex SEND needs
Delivering high-quality personal care, including toileting, hygiene, and physical support
Supporting feeding routines, including PEG feeding where required
Safely operating hoists and assisting with manual handling in accordance with individual care plans
Supporting sensory, therapeutic, and personalised learning activities
Using communication approaches such as PECS, Makaton, and other non-verbal communication methods
Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, medical professionals, and families
Monitoring and recording pupil progress, wellbeing, and care requirements
Promoting a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
Previous experience supporting children or young people with PMLD or complex SEND needs
Proven experience with hoisting and manual handling (essential)
Experience delivering personal care and supporting feeding routines
PEG feeding experience, or a willingness to undertake training (highly desirable)
Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods
A patient, resilient, and compassionate approach to supporting learners
An Enhanced Child and Adult DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
The ability to commit to a full-time role from September 2026
Please note: Candidates must have previous practical experience using hoists and supporting pupils with physical care needs. Applications from candidates with PMLD experience and strong manual handling skills are particularly welcomed.
