As an HGV Class 1 Tramper Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods across the UK, spending several nights away from home each week. You will ensure deliveries are completed on time while complying with all road transport legislation, drivers' hours regulations, and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive HGV Class 1 (C+E) articulated vehicles safely and professionally.
- Complete nationwide deliveries and collections.
- Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report any defects.
- Secure loads correctly and ensure cargo is transported safely.
- Complete delivery paperwork and electronic PODs accurately.
- Comply with drivers' hours, Working Time Directive, and tachograph regulations.
- Plan routes efficiently and communicate with the transport office regarding schedules and delays.
- Provide excellent customer service at delivery and collection points.
- Keep the vehicle clean, roadworthy, and presentable.
- Stay overnight in the vehicle as required (tramping), following company policies.
Skills and Requirements
- Valid HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) licence.
- Valid Driver CPC qualification.
- Digital Tachograph Card.
- Good knowledge of UK road transport regulations.
- Strong awareness of health and safety procedures.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Good communication
- Flexible to work away from home for multiple nights each week.
Typical Working Pattern
- Monday to Friday tramping with 3–5 nights out per week.
- Early morning starts and long-distance UK travel.
- Night-out allowance paid in addition to basic pay
