Role Overview
As a Clothing & Footwear Assistant, you are the face of the clothing department. Your main goal is to deliver excellent, friendly customer service, keep the department looking sharp, and help customers find the right apparel—whether they need heavy-duty outdoor work gear or everyday casual country clothing. As this is a retail role, working most weekends is expected, and the position requires the flexibility to work short, efficient 4-hour shifts over the store's opening hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement: Warmly greet customers, answer questions about clothing features (such as sizing, durability, or weatherproofing), and provide an excellent overall shopping experience.
- Visual Merchandising: Maintain and create eye-catching visual displays. You will have an "eye for detail" to ensure stock is presented attractively and is easily accessible.
- Stock Management: Keep shelves and clothing racks fully stocked, organised, and tidy. You will handle new stock deliveries, price items correctly, and ensure the shop floor looks inviting.
- Sales & Upselling: Spot opportunities to recommend complementary items (e.g., suggesting the right socks or care products to go with a new pair of boots) to maximise sales while keeping customer relationships genuine.
- Till & Point of Sale (POS): Efficiently process transactions, handle cash and card payments, and deal with returns or exchanges professionally.
Skills & Qualifications
- Availability & Flexibility: Ability to commit to a 16-hour weekly rota (structured as 4x 4-hour shifts), including a regular presence on weekends and flexibility across standard opening hours.
- Experience: Previous experience in retail sales, customer service, or merchandising is preferred, but training is provided for the right candidate.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication and a friendly, proactive attitude.
- Time Management: Ability to multi-task and maximise productivity during 4-hour shifts.
- Interest in Country Lifestyle: A basic knowledge of or interest in country clothing, outdoor wear, or the agricultural sector is highly beneficial.
Pay: £8.00-£12.72 per hour
