As a Theatre & Refractive Laser technician, you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team within Moorfields Private to deliver exceptional care to all ophthalmic patients, their relatives, or carers across both clinical areas of Refractive Laser and theatre Department.
Your expertise will be essential in assisting ophthalmologists with patient assessments, surgical procedures and ensuring smooth patient experiences throughout our clinic.
This is a full time post, 37.5 hours per week across 5 days. Our clinic is open from 8am-8pm and as such, the post holder is required to be flexible with regards to their working shift pattern. Example shift patterns for this role include: 08:00-14:00, 11:00-18:00, 08:00-18:00.
Job Responsibilities -
- Accountable for the smooth operations of both Schwind Amaris and Visumax 800 laser machines, including maintaining documentation of both laser machines and their servicing.
- Assisting the surgeon in planning and coordination of patient files and their treatments for laser eye surgery.
- Assisting consultants in scrubbing for Refractive laser eye procedures.
- Adhere to and provide updates on all laser safety regulations in line with Laser Safety Officer training.
- Providing support where necessary within our outpatient department in performing diagnostic tests.
- Provide pre-and post-operative care, within level of competence to patients.
- Completing clinical audits for the department.
- Assisting in admitting patients for surgical procedures, taking clinical observations, and administering drops for dilation.
- Assisting inside the operating room, setting up equipment and preparing the patient with their monitoring as well as supporting the surgeon and scrub nurse.
- Ensure daily checks, cleaning and stock rotation are completed within the Refractive Laser and Theatre department.
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment for all patients.
Basic Qualifications -
- Minimum 1 year experience of working within Ophthalmology
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology related to the eye
- Experience of working within a clinical environment.

- Experience and knowledge of refractive laser procedures
- Working within an operating room environment
