SENIOR CLINICAL FELLOW IN RENAL MEDICINE

This is a full-time post which has been funded by NHS Lothian to provide specialty experience in Nephrology.
The post is aimed towards a senior Trainee or post-CCT physician seeking additional experience in certain sub-specialty aspects of Nephrology and Renal Transplantation. These may be negotiated with the successful candidate.

This is a full-time post which has been funded by NHS Lothian for 12 months from August 2026 to provide specialty experience in Nephrology. The post is aimed towards a senior trainee or post-CCT physician seeking additional experience in Nephrology or Kidney Transplantation. Specific interests of the successful candidate such as sub-specialty aspects of nephrology such as transplantation, dialysis or vasculitis or clinical research will be accomodated where applicable, and dedicated research blocks could be built into a job plan, subject to negotiation.
The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh provides renal services to Lothian & Borders and kidney transplantation to the North, East and South-East of Scotland, and kidney-pancreas transplantation for the whole of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Through links with the University of Edinburgh, the Renal Department has an active focus on translational research, with a particular interest in senescence.
The post holder will be based in the Department of Renal Medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and would participate in the renal StR on call rota.
Specific interests of the successful candidate such as research aims, if applicable, will be accomodated where possible.
The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh provides renal services to Lothian & Borders and kidney transplantation to the North, East and South-East of Scotland, and kidney-pancreas transplantation for the whole of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The renal unit is additionally a registered training site for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
The post holder will be based mainly in the Department of Renal Medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and would participate in the StR on call rota.
Key requirements: GMC registered medical practitioner.
License to practice
Completed core medical training or equivalent
MRCP or equivalent
Senior Trainee in Nephrology or already have CCT in Nephrology
The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh provides general nephrology and dialysis services for Lothian and Borders, kidney transplantation to the North, East and South-East of Scotland, and kidney-pancreas, liver and islet transplantation for the whole of Scotland.
The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
