Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and enthusiastic Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Chester. This rewarding role involves working closely with students aged 11–16 who have Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential.
The successful candidate will provide both classroom-based and individual support, working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure pupils receive the highest standard of educational and emotional support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Support students in accessing the curriculum and participating fully in lessons.
- Assist teachers in adapting learning materials and activities to meet individual needs.
- Encourage positive behaviour and help implement behaviour support strategies.
- Foster students' independence, confidence, and social development.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Support students during breaktimes, transitions, and school activities where required.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies.
The Ideal Candidate Will HaveEssential:
- Experience working with children or young people in an educational, care, youth work, or support setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships with students and staff.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
Desirable:
- Previous experience supporting students with SEN in a secondary school setting.
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Supporting Teaching and Learning, Health & Social Care, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or other additional learning needs.
- Team Teach, MAPA, or other behaviour management training.
