Substance Misuse Nurse
Location: Runcorn
Pay: £38 per hour
Contract: Temporary, full-time hours
Seven Resourcing is currently seeking an experienced Substance Misuse Nurse to join a specialist service in Runcorn. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact within a dedicated multidisciplinary team supporting individuals affected by substance misuse.
About the Role
As a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will play a key part in delivering high-quality, evidence-based clinical interventions to service users with drug and alcohol issues. Working closely with other healthcare professionals, you will support service users through assessment, detoxification, harm reduction, and recovery planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake comprehensive physical and mental health assessments for service users and ensure appropriate referrals or signposting where needed.
- Complete alcohol and opiate assessments, determining safe detoxification plans and supporting community detox programmes.
- Assist in the titration and optimisation of opiate substitute treatment (OST).
- Provide health education and promotion around blood borne viruses (BBV), including screening and vaccination.
- Carry out phlebotomy and interpret results to support clinical decision-making.
- Deliver wound care, harm reduction interventions, and health promotion advice.
- Train staff and service users in the use of Naloxone, ensuring distribution at every opportunity.
- Support individuals through one-to-one and group psychosocial interventions, promoting engagement and ownership of recovery.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely records in line with service protocols.
- Contribute to service quality, ensuring adherence to NICE guidance, UK clinical standards, and professional best practice.
Requirements
- Current NMC registration (Registered Nurse).
- Demonstrable experience within substance misuse
- Strong knowledge of harm reduction, detoxification, and health promotion.
- Confident in delivering assessments, planning care, and managing clinical risk.
- Trained in or willing to undertake phlebotomy and basic life support.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and non-judgemental approach.
- Able to work flexibly, including some evenings, weekends, or bank holidays if required.
