Material Testing Technician
Location: Bath
Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 (DOE)
Full-time | 39 hours | Early finish Fridays
We're looking for an experienced Material Testing Technician to join a modern and growing manufacturing business in Bath. This is a key technical role supporting the production of high-precision components used across aerospace, automotive, and power generation sectors.
The Role
As a Material Testing Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring materials and components meet required specifications through a range of mechanical and metallurgical testing methods.
This is a hands-on position combining laboratory work, inspection, and technical reporting, ideal for candidates with a background in materials, engineering, or quality testing.
Key responsibilities include:

Carry out a range of material testing activities, including:

Hardness testing

Tensile testing
-
Microstructural analysis using optical microscopy

Surface finish and defect analysis
-
SEM analysis (where applicable)

Prepare samples using sectioning, mounting, polishing, grinding and etching techniques

Review and interpret test results against engineering specifications

Support quality control processes within production

Produce clear and accurate test reports

Maintain and calibrate testing equipment

Work in line with industry standards including ISO, ASTM and NADCAP

Support investigations into material or production-related issues
Hours
Mon-Thurs: 07:00-16:30 or 07:30-16:30
Fri: 07:00-12:00 or 07:30-12:30
About You

Background in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field

Experience within a laboratory, quality, or manufacturing environment desirable

Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach

Able to interpret technical specifications and data

Hands-on and comfortable working with testing equipment

Good IT and reporting skills
