Catering Tutor
Part Time: 3 days per week
Salary: £130 - £200 per day (Depending on experience)
Start date: July 2026 trial week with view to start in September 2026
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Catering Tutor to join a brand new Post-16 provision in an large SEND School based in Derby City Centre.
The role will initially be on a part time basis whilst the provision is being set-up and student numbers are being enrolled for September 2026, once set up the role will be required for the full academic year with the potential then to increase the hours to full time.
Core Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver practical and theoretical lessons across multiple disciplines, including food preparation, patisserie, and front-of-house service.
- Assessment & Tracking: Mark assignments, observe practical kitchen sessions, and track learner progress using awarding body standards (e.g., VRQ, NVQ).
- Health & Safety: Enforce rigorous hygiene, food safety, and safety protocols within the commercial or training kitchen environment.
- Mentorship: Support students with pastoral care, target setting, and personal development.
Key Skills
- Classroom Management: Ability to manage a team of Education Assistants (EAs), learners, and fast-paced kitchen workflows.
- Communication & Patience: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively guide students with varying abilities and learning needs.
- Safeguarding: Commitment to promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
Essential Requirements
- Industry Experience: Substantial, up-to-date background in the catering and hospitality sector.
- Vocational Qualifications: Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery, Catering Management, or an equivalent hospitality qualification.
- Certifications: Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate.
- Teaching/Assessor Qualifications: A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, QTLS) or a commitment to work towards one. Assessor awards like A1/TAQA are highly desired.
- Functional Skills: Minimum Level 2 / GCSE passes in English and Maths.
