Practice Manager

About Us
KMA Chartered Management Accountants are a busy and client-focused accountancy practice, with a portfolio of approximately 600 clients, including limited companies and sole traders. We pride ourselves on offering a personal, professional service and building strong long-term relationships with our clients. Established over 40 years ago, the practice has grown steadily and now has a dedicated team of 10 staff. We are looking to recruit an experienced and confident Practice Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the practice and lead our supportive accounts team.
The Role
This is a varied and hands-on role requiring strong leadership, organisational skills, and technical accountancy knowledge. The successful candidate will manage workflow across the practice, support and develop the team, and maintain excellent relationships with clients.
You will be confident conducting in-person meetings, liaising with clients and HMRC, and ensuring work is completed accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the accountancy practice
- Organise, delegate, and manage workflow across the accounts team
- Manage a portfolio of clients including limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders
- Review and finalise accounts prepared by the team
- Complete accounts by processing depreciation, adjustments, tax calculations, and HMRC submissions
- Prepare annual statutory accounts and corporation tax returns
- Support the team with MTD+ tax returns
- Deal with HMRC tax enquiries and correspondence
- Provide tax planning advice and general business support to clients
- Conduct in-person meetings with clients and maintain strong working relationships
- Ensure all deadlines and compliance requirements are met
- Identify and implement improvements to processes and procedures
- Assist with business acquisitions, disposals, and business valuations
- Support the improved use of practice software, including CCH
- Problem solve and provide leadership across the business
Candidate Requirements
- Ideally ACA, ACCA, CIMA qualified or part-qualified, or qualified by experience
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice is preferred
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise at all levels
- Confident meeting clients face-to-face
- Strong technical knowledge of accounts and taxation
- Experience preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and tax returns
- Knowledge of HMRC processes and compliance requirements
- Experience using CCH software and Sage
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple deadlines

Pay: £45,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
