Job Summary:
Is looking for a self-employed Personal Care Assistant to assist with a variety of tasks which will allow the client to live their personal and social life according to their wishes and interests.
The client is a woman in their 40s, outdoorsy, and multisystemically seriously physically ill. Diseases include energy-limiting ones (including ME,) which cause chronic fatigue, and allergic conditions. Is in chronic pain due to the medical conditions, and a chronic injury. Is not a wheelchair user.
Day & times: There's a fixed shift of three hours available. That is, there are three fixed hours available p/w. This will ideally be on a Saturday or Sunday, but Thursdays or Fridays are possible. Preference will be given to candidates with availability on a Saturday or Sunday.
Beyond that, there are additional back hours, so additional non-fixed days to suit both parties are available. There’s times available on Fridays, and Saturdays or Sundays. Thursdays are also possible. There's also availability for 10 Thursday morning shifts from September to October.
If any other additional hours become available, they will be offered to the successful applicant.

Main duties:
- Simple food prep, and cooking.
- Light housework
- Support with admin.
- Help sometimes with running baths, but no help beyond that needed with bathing or showering.
- Support with physiotherapy exercises.
Social duties:
-Help with social activities, including walks/drives/getting out to engage with hobbies, and into community, e.g. to LGBT community groups. Or when the client's not well enough, playing board games/cards with her.
- Have an understanding that when the client is not feeling well enough to carry out any activities to support with other duties (e.g. housework, cooking/food prep) whilst they rest.
Personal care:
- Help when needed with lacing shoes or boots, and/or putting ankle braces on.
- Occasional help with running baths/showers, but no help with bathing or showering
needed beyond that.
Domestic duties:
- Light cleaning, laundry, weekly laundry change.
- Food prep, cooking, blending.
These duties may vary day-to-day.
Qualities:
- Will be warm, open-minded, patient, organised, a good communicator, a good listener, able to take guidance, a good timekeeper, self-motivated.
- Will be understanding of the need to be scent-free whilst in the role, due to the client’s allergic conditions.
- Will be masked when indoors with the client.
- Will like the natural world. Part of the role is drives/walks in nature.
Skills, qualifications and experience:
- Driving license
- Car, registered for business use, appropriate insurance
- Confidentiality
- Good at building relationships
- Practicality
- Clear, direct, communicator
- First aid training/or willingness to undertake this is preferred.
Requirements:
- Provide evidence of self-employment: proof of Public Liability Insurance, Terms and
Conditions, Unique taxpayer reference (UTR).
- DBS Check will be required
- Legally Able to Work in UK
The position is open to someone self-employed, or willing to become so, which would include registering with HMRC. Additionally, as mentioned, any successful applicant must be a driver, with a vehicle, that's insured for business use/or be willing to take out that relevant insurance.
