Role Purpose
To deliver high-quality, inclusive support to LGBTQ+ young people and their families through 1:1 and group work, helping them build confidence, improve wellbeing, and explore their identities in a safe and affirming environment.
You will also contribute to the development of our wider Positive Identities programmes, including supporting LGBTQ+ training (Safe Zone) and our Safe Space Award.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver group sessions (and some 1:1 support) for LGBTQ+ young people (aged 13–18)
- Facilitate sessions for parents and carers
- Plan and deliver engaging, safe, and inclusive sessions
- Build strong, trusting relationships with young people and families
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Positive Identities programmes
- Support evaluation and outcome monitoring
- Work within the CSSO model (Child-Directed, Systems Focused, Strengths-Based, Outcome-Informed – training provided)
- Facilitate LGBTQ+ Safe Zone training sessions
- Support the coordination of the Safe Space Award
- Represent Positive Identities at events (e.g. Pride and community events)
- Promote the service internally and externally
- A driving licence is desirable
- The role will adopt a hybrid approach in terms of location so a mixture of working from home and in our Leeds based office will be required.

You will need to evidence that you can provide a non-judgemental and confident approach whilst working with LGBTQ+ communities.
The Positive Identities PW2 will support further development activity and training across the wider service as required.
About the Service
Barnardo's Positive Identities Service has supported LGBTQ+ children, young people, and their families for over 14 years. We provide:
- Direct support through Gender Space (primarily group work, some 1:1 work and family programmes)
- Safe Zone LGBTQ+ training for professionals and organisations
- The Safe Space Award, recognising inclusive environments
- Workshops and consultancy support
We deliver a range of training and guidance, supporting organisations and community groups to embed cultures of inclusivity of LGBTQ+ identities and to proactively challenge discrimination.

Although this contract has a permanent status, please be aware that this post is subject to funding currently until March 2027 and therefore should this funding not be extended further, you may be subject to a redundancy consultation or a TUPE arrangement. This contract is due to expire on 31.03.27
