The Green Party Group is seeking a political assistant. This is a unique opportunity to support the Calderdale Green Party in its work to ensure environmental and social justice for everyone in Calderdale. You'll be working with a team of seven councillors to promote Green Party policies and activities, as well as ensuring an appropriate level of challenge and scrutiny is given to Council and Cabinet decisions.
We're looking for a self-starting problem solver who's able to build relationships with a wide range of council officers and politicians. You'll need to be comfortable working in an unstructured and fast-moving environment and have the confidence to discuss and debate issues and operational matters with Councillors and others.
The position will involve a mix of home and office-based working, plus some evening attendance at meetings (virtual and in person).
Key responsibilities will include:-
- Supporting and advising the group on key developments
- Research, monitoring and information on local issues
- Appraising group leadership of significant issues being considered by officers
- Supporting group members with information, advice and complex casework issues
- Providing reports and briefings as requested by group leadership
- Drafting and issuing press releases and preparing replies to routine correspondence
- General administration and support duties
