Position Overview
This is a fixed-term summer position to teach general English to small groups of international students and ESOL. The role focuses on developing students' overall English language proficiency, with particular emphasis on communication skills that will support their future studies.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging general English classes to international students
- Use communicative teaching methods to develop students' speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills
- Assess students' language levels and monitor their progress
- Provide constructive feedback to support language development
- Create a positive and supportive learning environment
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and achievement
- Participate in our summer program events and activities

Required Qualifications
As per British Council Accreditation UK requirements:
- A recognized TEFLI certificate in ELT/TESOL that meets the following criteria:
- Externally validated by a reputable examination body or regulated by a national regulating body (Ofqual, QW, SQA, or CCEA)
- Contains at least six hours' supervised teaching practice
- Contains at least 100 hours of ELT/TESOL or language teaching input
- Examples of acceptable qualifications include:
- Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Level 4 or 5 QCF)
- CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL
- PGCE in English/modern languages
- University certificate in ELT/TESOL meeting the above criteria
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Experience teaching general English to international students
- Experience working with TQUK ESOL qualifications
Examples of acceptable qualifications include:
- Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Level 4 or 5 QCF)
- CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL
- PGCE in English/modern languages
- University certificate in ELT/TESOL meeting the above criteria
Employment Details
- Fixed-term summer contract: [July-August 2025]
- Teaching load: 2-3 hours per day (10-15 hours per week)
- Freelance position between £18 to £25 p/ hour depending on experience
- Course structure: Typically 20 hours of instruction over a two-week period
- Location: Peterborough
