Job Title: 1:1 SEND English & Maths Tutor – Tamworth Library

We are looking for a confident, patient and experienced 1:1 tutor to support a Year 13 learner with an EHCP who is currently out of education following the breakdown of a previous college placement. The learner requires support with English and Maths, with a focus on rebuilding confidence, improving engagement, strengthening basic skills and preparing for future college or post-16 education.
The learner has needs linked to Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, and SEMH, alongside ASC and ADHD traits. This role would suit someone who has experience working with SEND learners, disengaged young people, Functional Skills, GCSE resit support, or alternative provision-style tutoring.
The learner’s current attainment is around GCSE Grade 1 level in English and Maths, with previous passes in Entry Level Functional Skills. Sessions should be structured, calm and engaging, with learning broken down clearly and delivered at a suitable pace. The tutor should be able to build a positive professional relationship and use the learner’s interests to support engagement, including gaming, music, content creation, construction, fitness, reading and future career goals.
Session Pattern
Initial sessions requested are:
- Tuesday: 9:30am – 11:30am
- Thursday: 9:30am – 11:30am
- Following week: Monday and Wednesday, 2:00pm – 4:00pm
- Week commencing 22nd June: no sessions due to family holiday
- Week commencing 29th June: Tuesday and Thursday, 2:00pm – 4:00pm
After this, sessions will alternate weekly between:
- Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30am – 11:30am
- Tuesday and Thursday, 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Applicants must be able to offer flexibility around these alternating times.
The ideal tutor will have:
- Experience supporting SEND, SEMH, ASC, ADHD or disengaged learners
- Experience teaching or tutoring English and Maths at GCSE, Functional Skills or Entry Level
- A calm, consistent and encouraging approach
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills
- The ability to build trust and confidence with learners who may have struggled in previous education settings
- An understanding of safeguarding, professional boundaries and safe online behaviour
- The ability to plan structured, purposeful and engaging sessions
- A valid Enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain one
