Cygnet Hospital Beckton is a is a gender specific hospital for women with complex mental health needs. Situated in the East End of London, the hospital has four different specialist wards including PICU, acute admissions and personality disorder services.
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Support Worker to form part of our New Nursing Structure and play a key role in the management of service user’s care. Senior support workers would proactively be involved in aspects of the ward Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) and champion defined QIP initiatives.
The post holder will also carry a caseload of service users for whom they would be the primary nurse with supervision from a Registered Nurse.
In addition to nursing duties on the ward, the post holder upon successful completion of a probationary period will be required to coordinate shifts under the support of a Registered nurse who would maintain overall accountability of the shift.
You will be working 38.5 hours per week covering 12.5 hours shifts on a rota basis including days and nights.
In this role you’ll:
Actively participate in both the assessment and care plan process, defining care needs and ensuring care is individualised and truly meets the holistic needs of the service user.
Build and maintain therapeutic relationships, which result in positive outcome for patients and aids recovery.
Work with both the registered nurses and other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team to ensure defined care is implemented, that patients are actively involved in all aspects of their care and fully understand the Care Programme Approach process.
Be the dedicated champions for an aspect of ward Quality Improvement Initiative/practice such as audits, safeguarding, PMVA, LRP aspects of training and carer involvement.
Work as a Primary Nurse Inpatient care coordinator, participating in CPA’s ward reviews, Mental Health Review Tribunals and Managers Hearings ensuring that your role of Senior Support workers truly influences care and is a participative member of the MDT.
Undertake an active role in the shift management on the ward by undertaking shift coordinator duties under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Working in collaboration with the ward team and clinical manager in order to maintain environmental security and enhance relational security and be the allocated security nurse on a rotational basis.
We're looking for people who have:
At least two years’ experience in inpatient mental health setting
NVQ level 2/3 qualification in health and social care
Positive attitude to people with Mental Health problems
Evidence of successfully dealing with challenging situations
Ability to form effective working relationships with Service Users and colleagues
Ability to undertake physical tasks involving patient care
Ability to demonstrate good literacy and numeracy skills
Good verbal communication skills.
Good IT skills
Demonstrate an understanding of caring for people with Mental Health problems
Demonstrate an understanding of recovery approaches to mental health
