Salary: £14.25–£15.00 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a well-resourced special school in Plymouth, supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
This is a challenging yet highly rewarding role, ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people with additional needs.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support students both in the classroom and throughout the school day. You will help pupils access learning, develop communication skills, build independence and achieve their individual goals.
The school environment is fast-paced, busy and engaging, with a strong focus on providing high-quality support for every student. You will be joining a supportive team of experienced professionals who are committed to helping pupils thrive.
Please note that some personal care duties may be required as part of this role.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or vulnerable adults is essential.
- A patient, resilient and caring approach.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A genuine interest in supporting individuals with additional needs.
Desirable Skills
The following qualifications or experience would be advantageous but are not essential:
- Makaton
- PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
- BSL (British Sign Language)
