We are a small, dynamic, busy charity looking for a Cleaner/Caretaker/s to support our facilities team with essential services at our busy Centre. You will work 6 days per week term time, to ensure our centre is kept clean, tidy, secure, well-presented and maintained throughout the year. A job share for 2 people will be considered for the right candidates. Evening or morning shifts are available.
The centre is located a short walk from Kings Cross St Pancras and Camden stations, with a range of cafes, shops, restaurants and the canal nearby.
The Centre runs an academic calendar and is open all year, excluding public Bank Holidays and most holiday break weekends. We are a close friendly team, and the Cleaner Caretaker role is an essential part of our services.
This is a permanent, lone-working role with access to support as needed. You’ll have experience in cleaning, and facilities maintenance, be reliable, conscientious, and work well independently and in a team. You’ll have the ability to deliver regular early morning (or late evening shifts) throughout the year.
As a primarily lone-working role that requires regular lifting, you will have a good and consistent level of physical fitness, and feel confident managing spaces and equipment alone.
Throughout the year there will be opportunity for further hours. You will have the flexibility to assist with shift cover, if working as a job share, and available to support evening Centre security lock ups, facilities issues, and cleaning and maintenance projects when requested during the year.
Purpose of the role
Cleaning: Main duties
· Maintaining the Centre to a high standard, ensuring all areas are clean, tidy, secure and well-maintained providing a welcoming, cared for environment for Centre users.
· Daily cleaning of all rooms and communal areas - dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, floors, vents, skirting boards, surfaces and carpets.
· Full daily cleaning of restrooms, toilet facilities and kitchen, windows, stairwells, waiting areas, doors and entryways as appropriate.
· Cleaning and care of Centre furniture; tables, chairs, cushions and equipment.
· Cleaning of staff offices, surfaces and chairs as needed.
· Daily collection and removal of rubbish and recycling from all rooms, including litter collection from the front entrance and pavement area as needed.
· Manage store cupboards and supply rooms and monitor cleaning stock and equipment, keeping a high standard of organisation and orderliness in all areas.
· Deliver rota of regular deep cleaning tasks to maintain the Centre throughout the year.
Caretaking; Main duties
· Coordinate daily setup and pack-down of equipment, with daily room set up for meetings, therapy sessions, and training groups.
· Coordinate care, storage and maintenance of Centre stock and equipment, furniture, stock, IT resources, and storage areas throughout the week, as required by the Centre.
· Prepare items for post/ collection and receive/unpack evening deliveries.
· Report stock, supplies and equipment for order, repair or purchase.
· Conduct agreed light repair work to equipment, fixtures and fittings as needed.
· Ensure security and lock -up of building; windows & doors, alarm set before leaving the premises each evening and morning where required.
· Available to cover security and Centre, lock-up / unlock needs as needed during the year.
· Action and deal effectively with pre-planned and last-minute maintenance and related facilities tasks
· Assist with care of Centres collection of indoor plants, and maintain care of outdoor areas.
· Assist with annual refresh and upkeep of the Centre, supporting with painting, decorating, organisation, clear outs, and refurbishment tasks as needed.
· Maintain excellent Health and Safety standards for all items, areas and tasks
· Monitor Centre for hazards, repairs or problems, report any health and safety, or other concerns to Centre Manager.
· Take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others at all times.
· When asked, respond to emergency callouts at the Centre and take action.
· Any other relevant duties that may be required by the Centre Manager and Events & Venue Coordinator.
Person Specification
Qualities and Experience for the role
· Proven experience working as a cleaner and caretaker in a similar role
· Experience/ability to complete basic repair and maintenance tasks as needed by the Centre.
· Ability to regularly lift and handle heavy equipment such as tables, chairs, stock and deliveries, refuse and recycling, cleaning and maintenance equipment.
· Ability to manage deep cleaning and maintenance tasks.
· Experience and ability to set up / care for basic office equipment; laptops, cables, monitors, projector screens etc for events and meetings
· Ability to deliver consistent cover throughout the year, with shifts that finish may start early , or finish at 1am as per your agreed contract.
· A comprehensive understanding of written and spoken English. The ability to read, write and communicate well in English.
· Basic IT skills and good working knowledge of Microsoft word, excel and outlook email
· Knowledge and experience of using cleaning chemicals and supplies
· An understanding of health and safety requirements in the workplace
