We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Registered Nurse/OPD/AHP to join the Vascular Access (CNS) Team.
You will have a key role in setting the standards and contribute to improving IV care for both in and outpatients’ cross site. We are looking for individuals who are well organised, able to use their initiative and can challenge poor practice.
You will be working under the direction of the Lead VA CNS. This post is for PRUH based but expected to support the service at Denmark Hill When required. You will ensure that high standards of care are delivered in relation to vascular access within the Trust by implementing an overall strategy of evidence-based practice and education programmes. The post holder will also undertake regular audits to assess the impact of educational interventions.
As you will be providing training/ line insertion service within the clinical setting, majority of the time will be spent within the clinical areas of a division. T he successful applicant must therefore be highly motivated, show a sound clinical grounding, enthusiastic, have excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to support and educate others coupled with experience in people and financial management. An excellent working knowledge of infection control and vascular device management is essential.

- To undertake bedside teaching, training and provide and supervise ongoing care and education of midlines and PICC lines.
- To participate in the development of research-based practices. To assess, plan and with clinical teams, to implement, evaluate and improve standards of care within the sphere of responsibility.
- To advise clinical areas in respect of care and standardisation of intravascular equipment, having due regard for both safety and financial constraints. To ensure any deficiencies are communicated to appropriate personnel and when necessary to the Intravascular Catheter Group.
- To work clinically in wards and departments, working in accordance with an identified urgent need, developing their practice, and in response to specific issues raised at care group risk and governance level, including learning from serious incidents.
- In conjunction with other specialist clinical staff, to undertake monitoring and evaluation of standards of care of patients.
- To manage own caseload under supervision.
- To attend all relevant MDT meetings and actively contribute.
- To assist in the delivery of a seamless service through Multidisciplinary Team processes and communication.
- To maintain accurate records of training undertaken by each member of staff.
To assist the Lead Vascular Access Team in the determination of the need for, and provision of, appropriate intravascular training to all members of the multidisciplinary team in accordance with national guidance.
- To assist in the Lead Vascular Access Team in the development and maintenance of close links with managers and Practice Development Nurses for the staff groups being trained to ensure minimum disruption to the service concerned.
- To keep accurate records using a standard format for the staff trained in care and maintenance of vascular access devices, and to assist the Lead Vascular Access Team in reporting on this to the relevant managers.
- To perform other administrative tasks related to vascular access training as needed.
- To teach in the clinical area as required.
- To advise in relation educational opportunities and assist team members in developing themselves in accordance with their personal development plan and/or appraisal objectives.
- To support nursing staff in developing clinical competency around specified skills, related to respective speciality.
- To create, sustain and support an environment where practice development and change can flourish.
- In partnership with other members of the Vascular Access CNS and based on analysis of the relevant Saving Lives High Impact Interventions, determine educational needs to support the vascular access service.
- To participate in an audit programme of line care linked with the line practitioner team at other Kings Health Partners’ Hospitals to feed into the clinical governance system.
- To partake in clinical research around line care linked with the line practitioner team at other Kings Health Partners’ Hospitals
- To inform managers when changes in circumstances occur which affect safe and competent practice.
- To participate in review of the service to determine its value for improving patient outcomes, including consideration of continued worth of the service and its potential development.
- To provide support of nursing and non-nursing managerial staff as required.
- To ensure that resources are utilised effectively and efficiently.
- To exercise a cost-effective approach to patient care.
- To utilise and maintain information systems to aid audit and to provide regular actively analysis reports.
- To maintain contemporaneous and accurate treatment records, submitting relevant statistics, reports and activity data as requested.
