Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Building Contractor to oversee and manage construction projects from inception to completion. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating various trades, ensuring projects adhere to specifications, safety standards, and deadlines. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate with access to their own vehicle and tools.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organise, and supervise all phases of construction projects, including residential, commercial, or industrial buildings.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure project requirements are met efficiently.
- Oversee the work of tradespeople such as carpenters, roofers, masons, plumbers, electricians, and welders.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and industry standards.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to meet deadlines.
- Conduct site inspections regularly to monitor progress and quality of workmanship.
- Resolve any issues or delays promptly to minimise impact on project delivery.
- Maintain detailed records of project activities, materials used, and labour hours.
Skills
- Proven experience in construction management or as a building contractor with a comprehensive understanding of building processes.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry, roofing, masonry, plumbing, electrical systems, welding, and fabrication techniques.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints accurately.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong leadership qualities with effective communication skills to coordinate diverse teams.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to the construction industry.
- Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to addressing unforeseen challenges on-site.
