An opportunity has arisen to recruit a full time Assistant Psychologists in the Paediatric Psychosocial Service (PPS), part of Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust (MFT) CAMHS which sits within the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH)
Our service is organized into three teams, Critical Care and Surgery, Medicine, and Neuropsychology. Our patients could be pre, post diagnosis or treatment, they may even be under long term follow up from their treatment here at RMCH/ Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) / The Christie Hospital / Other satellite Hospitals.; hence the work base will varied.
This post is to support the Cleft Lip and Palate team within the Paediatric Psychosocial Services. The Cleft Lip and Palate wider team is based at RMCH and has a wide range of medical specialties including surgeons, orthodontists, nurses, speech and language therapists and paediatric dentists.
Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services for specialist paediatrics and several whole lifespan services are based at the RMCH / MRI. A wide range of tertiary paediatric specialities are provided from within the Trust, including both regional, national, and international services, both within RMCH, and in satellite clinics at other hospitals.
RMCH is a regional paediatrics hospital . Psychosocial services are well regarded in the hospital and close relationships exist with our colleagues in paediatric (and indeed adult) medical specialties.
The successful candidates would hold a good Honours Degree in Psychology (at least Class 2 Division 1), have a good knowledge of developmental and abnormal psychology, a clear understanding of psychological theory and interventions, and experience in working with children presenting with psychological problems.
This full-time post involves work in supporting both Cleft Clinical Psychology team within the PPS team Manchester University NHS foundation trust. The role will include psychological assessment and intervention of children with a cleft lip and/or palate. The postholder will be required to participate and support service evaluation for clinical services and participation in general duties within the Department of Paediatric Psychosocial Services.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

What is a DBS Check?
A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:
Standard DBS : Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
Enhanced DBS : Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.
Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.
Who Needs a DBS Check
Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.
The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.
