Head Chef

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and creative Head Chef to lead the relaunch of the kitchen at The King Canute. The kitchen is currently closed, presenting a unique opportunity for the right candidate to play a key role in developing and delivering a new food concept.
Our vision is to create a traditional gastro pub menu focused on high-quality ingredients, fresh homemade dishes, and excellent presentation, while still complementing and enhancing our established sports bar atmosphere.
This role is ideal for a passionate chef who enjoys menu development, takes pride in food standards, and wants real influence over the direction of a kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a new food concept aligned with a modern gastro pub offering
- Design seasonal menus using fresh, high-quality ingredients
- Prepare and present dishes to a consistently high standard
- Take full ownership of the kitchen operation, including opening and relaunching the kitchen
- Manage food costs, GP margins, stock control, and supplier relationships
- Recruit, train, and lead kitchen staff as the operation grows
- Ensure all food hygiene, health & safety, and kitchen compliance standards are met
- Work closely with management to align food offer with events, sports fixtures, and promotions
The Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef
- Strong background in fresh, homemade cooking
- Passion for ingredient quality, flavour, and presentation
- Experience developing menus from scratch or relaunching kitchens
- Ability to balance high-quality food with a relaxed pub/sports bar environment
- Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills
- Excellent understanding of food safety, allergen management, and kitchen controls
