Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Cook to join our Residential Care Home team on a part-time basis, plus covering for short-term sickness and holiday leave. This role involves preparing nutritious and appealing meals for residents, ensuring high standards of food safety and hygiene. The position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for culinary arts and experience in food preparation within a care or hospitality environment. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the wellbeing and comfort of our residents through quality meal provision.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of meals tailored to residents’ dietary requirements and preferences
- Assist in planning weekly menus in accordance with nutritional guidelines and residents’ needs
- Ensure all food is prepared safely, adhering to food safety standards and hygiene regulations
- Serve meals to residents in a friendly and professional manner, promoting a positive dining experience
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area, including washing up, sanitising surfaces, and storing ingredients appropriately
- Follow all health and safety procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment
- Support the wider care team with additional catering duties as required during busy periods or special events
- Place food orders
Qualifications
- Experience in food preparation, cooking, or culinary roles within a care home, restaurant, or similar setting
- Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices in hygiene management
- Proven ability to prepare nutritious meals suitable for individuals with specific dietary needs
- Previous kitchen experience is desirable but not essential; training will be provided where necessary
- Good organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Friendly, caring attitude with excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
