The Supply Room is currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant (SEMH) to work with the ages between 11 – 16 years old at an Alternative Provision Secondary School in the W6 Hammersmith area.
This is a full-time, temp-to-perm position, ideal for someone who is seeking a stable, long-term role within a specialist education environment working with children with challenging behaviour and SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health).
This role is suitable for a candidate that has previous experience working in a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit), supporting students with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), SEN (Special Educational Needs) and challenging behavioural needs in a specialist setting.
The role:
- Provide individual (1:1) support to assigned pupils throughout the school day.
- Assist in delivering lessons to small classes (4–6 pupils).
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using appropriate strategies.
- Support pupils with their academic, emotional and social development.
- Work closely with teachers and senior staff to implement behaviour support plans.
- Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and independence.
- Maintain a safe and structured learning environment.
- Record and report on pupil progress and behaviour.
Requirements:
- Experience working with young people in a secondary school, ideally in a PRU, SEN or alternative provision setting.
- Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, patient approach.
- Ability to build positive relationships with challenging pupils.
- Resilience and confidence in handling high-needs behaviour.
- Team player with good communication skills.

- Follow instructions from teachers, Inclusion team and senior leadership.

Desirable:
- Deescalation and positive restrain training such as Team Teach, MAPA, NAPPI.
