Sholden Hall Residential Home – Good Shepherd Care Ltd is a friendly and well-established residential care home in Deal, Kent. We are looking for a reliable, skilled and trustworthy Handyman / Maintenance Person to join our team on a part-time basis.
This is a flexible role, ideally suited to someone looking to work 1–2 days per week (hours can be agreed and paid hourly basis ), helping us maintain a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for our residents.
Main Duties
Your responsibilities will include:
- General building maintenance and repairs
- Carpentry and joinery work
- Painting and decorating
- Flooring repairs and fitting
- Basic plastering and wall repairs
- Minor plumbing repairs
- Minor electrical repairs (where competent)
- Repairing doors, locks, handles and furniture
- Garden maintenance, including grass cutting, hedge trimming and general upkeep
- Fence, gate and external repairs
- Pressure washing pathways and outdoor areas
- Replacing fixtures and fittings
- Carrying out routine maintenance checks
- Reporting maintenance issues and ensuring work is completed safely
- Assisting in maintaining a safe environment for residents, visitors and staff
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience in general property maintenance or a similar role
- Has practical skills across a range of trades
- Can work independently and manage their own workload
- Is reliable, honest and takes pride in their work
- Has good communication and problem-solving skills
- Understands the importance of health and safety
- Is respectful when working in a care home environment
Experience working in a care home, school, hotel or similar setting would be an advantage but is not essential.

Requirements
- Previous maintenance or handyman experience
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
- Right to work in the UK
- Full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential
