Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Mechanical Project Manager to join our Projects Team based in Fareham.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of mechanical and HVAC projects ranging in value from £10,000 to £800,000 across Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, East Sussex and West Sussex. Projects will typically include plant replacement, HVAC upgrades, heating systems, ventilation systems, air conditioning installations, mechanical refurbishment works and associated building services upgrades.
In addition to managing mechanical packages, the Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing associated specialist subcontractors including electrical, controls, builders, civils and other trades required to successfully deliver projects.
The role will support both new project opportunities and the delivery of ongoing minor works contracts, including key accounts such as Salisbury District Hospital and Hampshire County Council.
This position offers a varied workload with responsibility for the full project lifecycle, from initial planning and mobilisation through to commissioning, handover and final account agreement.
Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to)
Manage multiple mechanical and HVAC projects simultaneously, ensuring safe, efficient and profitable delivery.
- Take ownership of projects from receipt of order through to completion and handover.
- Develop, manage and maintain project programmes using industry-standard planning tools.
- Procure and manage specialist subcontractors including electrical, controls, civils, builders and other associated trades.
- Coordinate internal engineering, commercial and operational teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Undertake regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, health and safety compliance and programme performance.
- Manage client relationships and act as the primary point of contact throughout project delivery.
- Prepare and present project progress reports, programme updates and risk assessments.
- Identify project risks, opportunities and variations, ensuring timely communication with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts and commercial performance in conjunction with the commercial team.
- Review and approve RAMS, commissioning documentation, O&M manuals and handover information.
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with contractual obligations, company procedures and quality standards.
- Support the development of future project opportunities within existing client contracts and frameworks.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
Essential
- Proven experience managing mechanical and HVAC projects within the building services sector.
- Strong technical knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and mechanical building services systems.
- Experience delivering projects ranging from small works through to projects valued at £800k.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary subcontractors and specialist trades.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project financial management.
- Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
- Experience producing and managing project programmes.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience working within healthcare, local authority or education environments.
- Knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract.
- SMSTS, CSCS Managers Card, First Aid and Asbestos Awareness qualifications.
- Experience delivering projects within live operational environments.
- Knowledge of BMS controls and energy-efficient building services technologies.
