Job Purpose:
To provide high-quality, child-centred care and therapeutic support to children and young people under the age of 18 with complex emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs. To work within a therapeutic residential environment to promote safety, stability, emotional wellbeing, and positive outcomes.
Role: Residential Children's Support Worker
Roles available on either our day or waking night shift.
Our day shift would include all of the following hours -
6.30am -2pm, 8am – 10pm, 8am – 3.30pm, 3pm – 10pm & 1.30 pm – 8.30 pm
(One weekend on, one weekend off).
Our waking night hours would be as follows -
8pm-7am and 9.30pm-8.30am (minimum of 4 shifts per week - Monday to Sunday)
This role will commence on a temporary monthly rolling basis.
Location: We have locations in the following postcode areas IG8, CR0 & SW16
Salary: £25,396.00-£28,080.00 per year (depending on experience and qualifications)
What the role involves:
-Providing high-quality care, emotional support, and structured guidance to children and young people with complex emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs.
- Liaising with staff and multi-agencies to ensure that young people receive support to their changing needs.
-Work collaboratively with clinical staff (e.g., psychologists, CAMHS, therapists) to implement care plans.
-Encourage engagement with therapeutic activities and interventions.
-Monitor emotional wellbeing and report changes in presentation or risk.
-Promote independence, resilience, and emotional regulation.
- Providing a secure, stable, caring, supportive environment for children and young people in our care.
- Ensuring that children and young people’s needs are met within a culturally appropriate environment.
- Establishing and maintaining routines within the home which provide a framework for the development of a positive culture of care.
- Acting as a positive role model for young people and other staff in the home and offer advice, guidance, and assistance where appropriate.
- Participating in and the creation of a Personal Training plan based upon your identified developmental needs in conjunction with your supervisor.
- Participating in and make effective use of regular supervision from your supervisor/ Manager.
- Protecting the rights and promote the interests of young people Respect confidentiality within the principles of the Children Act 2004 sec 10 Duty to co-operate.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, experience and skills:
Essential:
-Proven experience in a childcare setting (ideally residential)
-Experience working with children or young people, ideally in mental health, care, or education settings.
-Experience working with children living with challenging behaviour, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Autism or who have experienced trauma, abuse or neglect.
-Understanding of trauma, attachment, and emotional/behavioural difficulties.
-Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviour.
-Strong communication, empathy, and relationship-building skills.
-Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
-Ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and well-being of children and young people.
-Able to commute to Woodford Green IG8
-Can work all of the shift times listed on either our day or waking night shift.
Desirable:
-NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Children’s and Young People workforce or equivalent.
