Job Description
The main aim of this role is to offer assistance and advice to learners during their work placements. It involves interacting with employers to define the roles and responsibilities of learners in the workplace, as well as identifying any additional support needs they may have.
Although the main role of this position is Job Coach, you may also be required to carry out LSA duties at the centre when required.

Responsibilities and Duties:
· Placement Preparation
1. Work with the learners in a classroom setting to establish rapport and support needs.
2. Attend work placement interview with learner and support with preparation of interview.
3. Engage with employer to establish learner work placement roles and responsibilities and identify support requirements.
4. Carry out work placement Health and Safety check (HASP), if required.
5. Support learner with travel training necessary for them to be able to travel between home and work placement.
6. Support learner with purchase of appropriate work wear, if required.
7. Plan pre work placement visits with learner to work placement/employer, if necessary.
8. Encourage the learner to adopt a good standard of personal hygiene and presentation.
9. Liaise with parents, carers and external agencies to form a good working relationship which will help to support the learner in placement.
10. Become familiar with the learner’s Access To Work hours planner and support needs identified in the Access To Work application.
11. Check with the tutor whether parental/carer consents have been given for photographs/video etc, to be taken.
· During Placement
1. To travel with learner to and from placement (as necessary dependent on learner needs).
2. To support learner to carry out work placement roles.
3. To act as intermediary between learner, employer and parent/carer (as necessary, dependent on learner needs).
4. To support learner to manage their emotions or behaviours within the workplace.
5. To be aware of potential triggers and how best to support the learner.
6. To support learner to maintain a good standard of personal hygiene and presentation in the workplace.
7. To liaise with tutors regarding the use of resources to support the learner in the workplace, i.e. visual prompt cards and timetables.
8. To ensure the ATW planner is followed and report to Line Manager if there are any concerns regarding planned work placement hours.
9. To carry out regular reviews with employers and obtain written feedback on the learner’s progress and areas requiring development.
10. To ensure the learner’s timekeeping is at an acceptable standard and they are not late for work, or late back from breaks.
11. To ensure learners build positive, appropriate working relationships with colleagues.
12. To support the learner’s employability, and personal and social skills development, including a good work ethic and can do attitude.
13. To use the All About Me profile and advise Line Manager of any necessary alterations.
14. Where appropriate, and only with permission, obtain photographic evidence to provide proof of work related activities (see placement preparation).
15. To ensure the learner stays focused and on task, and that duties are completed in a timely manner, to the required standard.
16. To manage the learner support needs for the learner to become independent in the workplace.
17. To liaise with Centre staff regarding additional support requirements relating to learning, IAG and safeguarding.
18. To assist learners in completing their weekly work experience diaries.
19. To liaise with employers regarding increase in work placement hours and the potential for paid employment.
20. To complete all paperwork in timely fashion in accordance with SWRAC policies and procedures.
21. To complete monthly timesheets including learner details, support hours and support carried out, etc.
22. To promote British Values, Equality & Diversity and the Prevent Agenda.
23. To ensure the safety of learners whilst out on work placement.
24. To feedback any concerns to Line Manager at earliest opportunity.
25. To report any change of circumstance re placement, hours or/and support needs in a timely fashion to Line Manager.
26. To carry out regular reviews with employer and learner in line with policy and procedures.
27. To provide 360 DEGREE feedback with all stakeholders.
28. To help create and maintain an effective and exciting environment of learning.
- To support learners with LDD/SEND in a variety of classroom settings
- To provide one to one support as directed by Head of Learning or class tutor
- Provide learning support within a group and on an individual basis
- To act as a scribe/reader/exam invigilator as required
- To support students on breaks
- To contribute to learners ILPs
- To work closely with team members to ensure that ILP targets are monitored and reviewed
- To be aware of individual learner’s risk assessments and needs
- Accompany learners on outings, visits, community and recreational activities
- Encourage independence and self-help skills wherever possible.
- Keep records associated with the support role
- Any other reasonable task requested by the management team
Experience:
- Working with young adults with SEND: 2 years (essential)
- Proven experience in supporting and coaching young adults with learning disabilities in vocational settings. (essential)
- Familiarity with various learning disabilities, their challenges, and effective support strategies. (essential)
- Experience in collaborating with employers and creating inclusive work environments. (desirable)
- Experience of working in different business environments. (desirable)
- Previous LSA experience (desirable)
Qualifications:
- Level 2 Maths and English (or equivalent) (essential)
- Level 2/3 Qualification in learning support or equivalent (desirable)
- Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools (desirable)
- Award in Education (desirable)
Knowlegde & Skills:
Essential:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- A good understanding of different learning styles and the ability to tailor coaching
approaches accordingly.
- Ability to work with young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
- Ability to work with young people with mental health needs (emotional and behavioural)
- To support learners effectively in their work placement roles.
- Ability to work in partnership with parents/carers and tutors.
- Ability to use own initiative and work flexibly
- A good understanding of safeguarding principles and keeping young people safe.
- Good understanding of providing high levels of customer service.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of local job markets and industries to assist in job placement and career development.
- Ability to think creatively and find innovative ways to support young adults in overcoming challenges.
Personal Qualities:
- Demonstrated empathy and patience in working with individuals with learning disabilities.
- Ability to motivate and inspire learners.
- Ability to build rapport and establish a trusting relationship with young adults, fostering a supportive and encouraging environment.
Special Attributes / Requirements:
Participate in ongoing safeguarding training to stay informed about best practices, emerging issues, and any updates in legislation or policies related to safeguarding.
