Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with special educational needs within our inclusive learning environment. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and specialised staff to facilitate personalised learning experiences, promote social development, and ensure the well-being of students with diverse needs. Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored educational programmes to children with special educational needs, including those with autism and other disabilities.
- Support students' personal care routines, including toddler care where applicable, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the day.
- Foster an inclusive classroom environment by encouraging participation and social interaction among pupils.
- Implement behaviour management strategies under the guidance of teaching staff to promote positive behaviour.
- Support individualised learning plans by providing one-to-one assistance or small group support as required.
- Monitor students’ progress and behaviour, reporting observations to teachers and SEN coordinators.
- Assist in organising classroom activities, resources, and materials to facilitate effective learning sessions.
- Communicate effectively with children, colleagues, and parents to support student development and well-being.
Skills
- Experience working with individuals with autism or other disabilities is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of special education principles and practices.
- Proven ability to work effectively with children in a supportive capacity.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to liaise confidently with colleagues, pupils, and parents.
- Compassionate approach with patience and adaptability when supporting children with diverse needs.
- Organised and proactive in managing classroom activities and individual student requirements.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude towards pupils’ development.
