Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Fitter - £60,000–£80,000 DOE
A well-established and growing scrap recycling business is looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Fitter to take full ownership of mechanical maintenance across three UK sites.
The role will be predominantly based at our West Bromwich site, which operates a complete UBC aluminium processing line comprising a wide range of fixed processing machinery. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to travel to our Rainham and Barking sites to support mobile plant and site machinery.
Due to the distance between sites, occasional overnight travel will be required. All overnight stays and associated expenses will be fully paid by the company.
This is a senior, hands-on role suited to a self-starter who is comfortable working independently, driving maintenance standards, and taking responsibility for plant reliability across the group.
The Role
- Full mechanical maintenance responsibility across all group sites
- Advanced fault finding, diagnosis and repair of fixed plant and processing machinery
- Ownership of the UBC processing line at West Bromwich, including conveyors, shredders, balers, magnets, screens and associated equipment
- Maintenance and repair of mobile plant, including material handlers, loading shovels and forklifts
- Create, implement and continuously improve a planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule across all sites
- Proactively identify potential failures and implement improvements to reduce downtime
- Maintain maintenance records, parts usage and service logs
- Coordinate with site management and operations teams to prioritise maintenance activity
- Liaise with OEMs, suppliers and external engineers when required
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with company and site health & safety standards
Skills, Experience & Technical Knowledge
Essential
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Fitter in a heavy industrial environment
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience with conveyors, rotating equipment and processing plant
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Full UK driving licence
Highly Desirable / Bonus
- Experience in the scrap metal or recycling industry
- Working knowledge of Harris, Eldan, Lefort, Fuchs and Atlas machinery
- Strong understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Welding and fabrication skills

Package
- Salary: £60,000 – £80,000 per annum, depending on experience
