About the Role
The Supply Room are seeking SEN Teaching Assistants to join a specialist school in Weston-Super-Mare. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with additional needs, and who want to help them achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
At this school you will play a vital role in creating a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning experience for pupils with a range of SEN. This may include ASC, ADHD, PMLD and SLD amongst other needs. Every day is different, and you will need patience, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to helping students reach their full potential.
The Position:
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver tailored assistance to children throughout the school day. This may include:
- Supporting pupils with a variety of special educational needs, adhering to their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
- Providing specific support to students and adapting activities to meet their individual needs
- Encouraging student engagement, independence, confidence, and participation in lessons
- Recording and providing feedback to teaching staff and the SENCo
- Preparing materials and environments for the school day
- Promoting positive behaviour and helping pupils develop appropriate social and emotional skills
Individual Student Support:
Some pupils may require more focused assistance through one-to-one or small group support sessions. In these situations, you may:
- Deliver targeted interventions in academic subjects
- Provide emotional support and encouragement
- Help students develop coping strategies, communication skills, and self-confidence
- Adapt your approach to suit each learner's needs
- Support sensory and emotional regulation through personalised strategies such as movement breaks, quiet spaces, visual aids, or structured routines
No two students are the same, so you will need to be adaptable to suit the needs of the children you are working with.
Candidate Requirements:
We welcome applications from individuals with a range of backgrounds who have experience supporting children or young people. Previous experience working within schools (SEN in particular) is highly regarded.
We are looking for staff who are patient, empathetic, and who are able to build strong relationships with the students. You should be confident managing challenging behaviour and tough situations, and should be able to use your own initiative to provide help throughout the school day without always being prompted.
