Company Profile / Job Purpose Summary
As a assistant you will work under the direct supervision of the Field Manager and Lead engineer but will be expected to work on your own and as a part of the regional team.
Key Objectives & Responsibilities
- Assist with inspection and testing of fire dampers in accordance with BS 9999.
- Assist with installation of access doors into ventilation systems in accordance with DW144/145.
- Support installation and repair of passive fire stopping in line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
- Assist with installation, repair, and replacement of fire dampers, including basic ductwork modifications.
- Support regular inspections of the physical plant as instructed.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in good condition.
- Assist with accurate record keeping and reporting.
- Follow all company guidance and work in compliance with BS 9999, RRO 2005, DW144/145 and Health & Safety regulations.
- Assist with the installation and repair of passive fire stopping systems in line with FIRAS certification requirements.
- Assist in installing fire batt systems, fire-rated sealants, collars, wraps, and linear joint seals in accordance with manufacturer instructions and tested system details (EI ratings).
- Support reinstatement of fire compartmentation following service penetrations.
- Assist in ensuring works maintain the required fire resistance of walls and floors (e.g. EI60 / EI120).
- Support the recording of completed works, including photographic evidence and installation documentation.
- Assist in identifying and reporting non-compliant compartmentation or fire stopping defects.
- Undertake additional duties to support the Regional Team as required.
- Work Monday to Friday with flexibility for overtime, including occasional weekend work.
Person Specification
- Willingness to learn and develop within the fire protection industry.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Reliable and punctual.
Skills & Knowledge
- Basic knowledge of ventilation systems (desirable).
- Understanding of fire safety principles (training will be provided).
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely.
- Awareness of Health & Safety requirements on site.
- Basic understanding of fire compartmentation and passive fire protection (training provided).
- Ability to complete basic documentation and job sheets.
Qualifications & Certifications
- Valid CSCS Card (desirable).
- NVQ Level in Fire Protection / Ductwork (desirable).
- FIRAS / BM TRADA / FPA accreditation (desirable).
- IPAF and/or PASMA (desirable).
- Knowledge of and experience working in accordance with Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Valid UK Driving License.
