Solar Electrician – Southern England & Midlands £40,000–£80,000 OTE | Full Time | Directly Employed
At Spirit Energy, we've been installing solar PV, battery storage and EV chargers for 16 years. We've completed around 7,000 installations and we're known in the industry for our reputation and for doing things properly. We are growing quickly and looking to take on more solar electricians to support company growth. We are building a world class installations team and would love for you to be a part of it.

Great Paperwork
We take our paperwork very seriously, and you'll always be turning up to site with a full job sheet and installation plan, with clear photos and method statement.
Role Progression. We offer a lot of training and progression and will invest in your development, including:
- To progress up the installation team's management structure and become a Deputy Head of Installations
- Site Surveying (if you're interested)
- Product training on Tesla Powerwall and other battery storage systems, EV chargers and solar inverters.
- SSSTS for those that want to progress to supervisor level.
- Commercial PV experience for those who want to broaden their skillset.
- Up to ECS Gold
The money and overtime: Base rate starts at £40,000 for a 45-hour contract, depending on experience, with bonuses for overtime and weekends. If you're experienced, we're happy to pay more than £40,000.
Overtime is yours to take or leave. Our highest paid electricians earn above £70k due to the overtime they do. If you're happy to work more, we'll provide the work.
You get paid to drive to site. Your day starts when you arrive at our warehouse in Reading (RG30). If you're travelling to site in the van, you're on the clock. You'll typically be working within a 50–60 mile radius of Reading, covering Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and London.
Stay-away projects are rare. We work across Southern England and the Midlands and we do reserve the right to request overnight stays on occasion, but in practice most of our team do no more than a few nights a year depending on the project size.
Meet the team: There are 25 of us in the installation team — 18 roofers and 7 electricians. Our Head of Installations has been with the company for 16 years and runs the team day to day. Most of our installers have been with us for over 5 years.
The role: You'll be installing domestic and commercial solar PV, battery storage and EV charger systems. Part of the role also involves directly supporting our Head of Installations with domestic surveying ahead of installations, giving you full experience of the pre-sales, preparation and installation process.
What we're looking for:
- Level 2 or 3 qualified electrician with a Solar PV course (City & Guilds, BPEC or Logic).
- Ideally 12 months' experience installing, commissioning and maintaining domestic solar PV systems.
- Experience with commercial PV or battery storage systems is a bonus but not essential.
- Working at Heights, Asbestos Awareness and ECS/CSCS are ideal but not all essential.
You'll need to be reliable, hardworking, presentable and comfortable dealing with clients on site.
We're MCS, CHAS and NICEIC accredited. Sub-contractors are welcome to apply, though we prefer direct employment for the long term.
