We are currently representing a warm and welcoming primary school in Birmingham seeking a dedicated and strategic School Business Manager to join their Senior Leadership Team on a full-time, permanent basis.
In a primary setting, the School Business Manager plays a uniquely central role. You will oversee the non-teaching infrastructure of the school—managing budgets, leading the support staff team, and maintaining a safe, nurturing environment where young learners can thrive.
Why join this Birmingham Primary School?
- Pivotal Leadership Role: Work as a trusted partner to the Headteacher and Governing Body, directly influencing the school’s financial health and operational direction.
- Close-Knit Community Culture: Experience the rewarding, family-centered atmosphere unique to primary education, where your work visibly impacts pupils, parents, and staff daily.
- Dedicated Support Team: Inherit and lead an established team of administrative, site, and catering staff who are deeply committed to the school's success.
- Continuous Professional Development: Benefit from tailored training opportunities and collaborative networking with other business managers across the Birmingham local authority and wider region.
The Role
- Financial Strategy & Oversight: Set, monitor, and maximize the school’s annual budget; ensure stringent financial controls and complete accuracy in forecasting and procurement.
- Human Resources & Payroll: Oversee staff contracts, personnel records, recruitment compliance, and payroll liaison in line with safer recruitment guidelines.
- Premises, Health & Safety: Lead the site management team to guarantee a secure, clean, and fully compliant school environment, acting as a key advisor on Health & Safety.
- Income Generation: Actively identify and secure additional funding streams, including grant applications, community lets, and school fund initiatives.
Requirements
- Proven experience in school business management, financial administration, or senior operational leadership (primary experience is highly desirable but not essential).
- A professional qualification in school business management (e.g., CSBM/DSBM) or a degree-level qualification in Finance, HR, or Business Administration.
- Strong working knowledge of school management information systems (such as SIMS or Arbor) is a significant advantage.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead diverse teams and multi-task under pressure.
