We are seeking an enthusiastic, organised, and passionate School Librarian to join a welcoming and supportive school. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys promoting reading, supporting students' learning, and creating an engaging library environment where pupils can develop a lifelong love of books.
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the school library, encouraging literacy across the school, and supporting both students and staff with learning resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day running of the school library.
- Promote reading for pleasure through events, displays, and literacy initiatives.
- Support pupils in selecting books suitable for their age, ability, and interests.
- Maintain and organise library resources, including cataloguing, issuing, and returning books.
- Work alongside teaching staff to provide curriculum-related resources.
- Organise author visits, book fairs, reading challenges, and other library events.
- Monitor library stock, order new resources, and manage the library budget where required.
- Ensure the library remains a welcoming, safe, and inspiring learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience working in a library, school, or educational setting (desirable).
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- A passion for reading, literacy, and supporting young people.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good IT skills and confidence using library management systems (training can be provided).
- The ability to work independently and as part of a wider school team.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
