Shires Farm Shop
About Shires
Rooted in Yorkshire’s community, Shires is a place where people come to eat well,
shop quality, and feel at home. We combine care with fresh thinking in everything we
do, from how we source and present what we offer to how we support one another
and our local community.
Shires is a family-owned, values-led farm shop currently in development near
Wetherby. It is being created as a food destination people actively choose to visit,
with careful attention paid to how the business looks, feels and tastes.
We are now getting ready to bring Shires to life, and we are looking for great people
to join us at the very beginning.
The opportunity
We are recruiting for a variety of roles across Shires, including front of house, team
members, baristas, cooks, kitchen porters in roles across our shop, restaurant,
counters and takeaway areas.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a new team and help shape the way
Shires feels from day one. We are looking for people who care about customers,
take pride in their work and want to be part of something being built properly.
Experience is valuable, but it is not the only thing we are looking for. We can teach
routines and ways of working. What matters most is how you approach people, how
you work as part of a team and whether you care about doing things well.
What we are looking for
We are looking for positive, friendly and reliable people who want to help create a
place where customers feel genuinely welcome.
You may be someone who loves looking after guests, making people feel at home
and giving warm, attentive service. You may be someone who enjoys food, coffee,
cooking, organisation, retail, teamwork or working behind the scenes to keep things
running smoothly.
Across all roles, we are looking for people who are polite, helpful, honest, punctual
and willing to contribute. You will need to care about customers, your colleagues, the
quality of what we do and the standards we want Shires to be known for.
We are building one team, but you may have a preferred area or particular skills, and
we will want to understand these during the recruitment process. At the same time,
we are looking for people who are willing to be flexible, learn different parts of the
business and support each other when needed.
Roles may include
Our front of house team will help welcome and look after guests, take orders, serve
food and drinks, check that customers have everything they need and create a
warm, friendly experience throughout each visit.
Our baristas will help make coffee a central part of the Shires experience, preparing
high-quality drinks for customers drinking in or taking away, while supporting the
busy hub of the café and shop.
Our cooks will work with the Head Chef to prepare and produce menu items
consistently, safely and to a high standard, helping make sure the food we serve
reflects the quality and care behind Shires.
Our kitchen porters will play a vital role in keeping the kitchen clean, organised and
ready for service, supporting pot wash, hygiene, deliveries and food preparation.
Our general team members will support across the shop, counters, restaurant,
takeaway and customer areas, helping customers, replenishing products, serving
food and drinks, maintaining displays and keeping Shires welcoming and well
presented.
About you
You will enjoy working with people, supporting others and being part of a team. You
will be willing to learn, open to feedback and ready to get involved in a busy, hands-
on environment.
You will understand that small details matter. A warm welcome, a clean table, a well-
made coffee, a carefully prepared plate of food, a tidy display or a helpful
conversation can all shape how a customer feels about their visit.
You will be reliable, presentable and proud of the part you play. You will be
comfortable working in a business where priorities can change throughout the day
and where everyone may need to support each other to get the job done.
Most importantly, you will want to be part of the Shires family and help create a place
that customers choose to visit, enjoy and return to.
Recruitment process
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a small group interview, expected to take
place in early July.
The group interview will give you the chance to meet us, learn more about Shires
and tell us about yourself, your skills and the areas of the business you are most
interested in. It will also help us get to know you as a person, how you communicate,
how you work with others and how you approach customer situations.
Successful candidates are expected to start around mid-August helping bring Shires
to life.
A note on flexibility and experience
We know that everyone’s circumstances are different. If you are interested in working
at Shires and feel aligned with what we are building, we encourage you to apply
even if you are looking for some flexibility around hours or ways of working, and to
share this with us as part of your application.
We also recognise that no one candidate will meet every point listed in an advert. If
you feel you could bring care, energy, reliability and commitment to Shires, we would
love to hear from you.
We are building something new, and we are looking forward to welcoming people
who want to be part of the journey and help make Shires a success.
