Oak & Smoke is a premium smoked fish business based in Borough Market. We specialise in traditional Arbroath smoked fish and freshly prepared bagels. We pride ourselves on exceptional product quality, friendly service, and creating a welcoming experience for every customer.
The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Retail Assistant to join our team. This is a customer-facing role in a fast-paced market environment, ideal for someone who enjoys working with people and takes pride in delivering excellent service.
Key Responsibilities
- Serving customers and providing a friendly, knowledgeable service
- Preparing and serving bagels and other menu items
- Handling cash and card payments accurately
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness
- Setting up and closing down the stall
- Stock replenishment and stock rotation
- Assisting with deliveries and inventory management
- Promoting Oak & Smoke products and sharing product knowledge with customers
- Ensuring displays remain attractive, clean, and fully stocked throughout the day

Essential
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Reliable, punctual, and well-presented
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment
- Comfortable standing for extended periods
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Previous retail, hospitality, market, or food service experience
- Food Hygiene Certificate (training can be provided)
- Interest in quality food and artisan produce
- Experience using card payment systems and tills
