British Red Cross work experience placements include a combination of office administration and work on discrete, short-term projects, depending on the person’s areas of interest and skill. Work experience typically takes place on a full-time basis for one or two weeks. Work experience placements give an opportunity to gain experience within different departments and an insight into the work of the British Red Cross. The work experience will start on 13 July 2026 and will run for one week. The work experience will be based at the British Red Cross office in Gravesend (DA11 0HZ). Red Cross Training is the commercial workplace training arm of the British Red Cross. Our primary activity is first aid training, so there will be opportunities for the work experience student to learn important lifesaving skills, both theoretical and practical during their placement with us. The work experience student will shadow our trainers in the training room setting and assist them throughout the week. You may be asked to help prepare some resources for activities during the week and support the trainer with some learning activities. You will learn some great skills along the way including how to respond to someone in need in a first aid emergency and perhaps some techniques which may save a life in the future. It is advisable to wear comfortable footwear and suitable clothing during your work experience. There will be some essential on-line health & safety training prior to the work experience. It may take a couple of hours to complete, but it is modular and can be completed in half hour blocks. Any induction training is to ensure we keep you safe, and so that we also protect the staff, volunteers and learners who are attending our premises and courses, as well as the organisational reputation of our charity which is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the world’s largest humanitarian network. Most importantly we hope you will enjoy the experience and learn something essential along the way. We need people to support our trainers to prepare and evaluate our training courses. Whatever activity you are engaged in you will be making a great contribution to help as many people as possible to learn how to cope in a first aid crisis. We would like you to have/be: - Good listening and communication skills. - Organised and good time keeping. - Ability to work on short project tasks enthusiastically. Diversity is something we celebrate. We want you to be able to bring your authentic self to the Red Cross and feel that you belong. We want to create an inclusive environment, and promote and spread the power of kindness. As part of creating an inclusive space we have an expenses policy that prioritises volunteers not being out of pocket for expenses linked to your role. If up front costs are difficult, you can speak to your volunteering manager about this to find alternatives. We welcome refugees, asylum seekers and others currently in the UK to volunteer with us. We want volunteering to be accessible to everyone. **Health and Safety Statement** We take an individual approach to ensuring your safety. We may ask you to complete a simple risk assessment and will also have a conversation with you to discuss and identify any adjustments you may need.
Why we want you: We want you to apply your interests and skills to the British Red Cross. A student on a work experience placement can bring fresh ideas, new perspectives, and enthusiasm to the British Red Cross, and contributes to work supporting people in crisis.
