Salary: £50,000 - £56,000 DOE

Due to continued investment and growth, they are seeking a Production Engineer to join their Production Engineering team based in Telford.
Position Summary
The Production Engineer will be responsible for supporting and improving manufacturing processes through the application of continuous improvement methodologies, problem-solving techniques, and engineering best practice.
Working closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams, the successful candidate will lead improvement projects, optimise equipment performance, reduce defects and waste, and support the introduction of new products and tooling into production.
This role is ideally suited to an engineer with experience in manufacturing, process improvement, lean methodologies, and data-driven problem solving.
Key Responsibilities
Continuous Improvement & Process Optimisation
- Lead and deliver Kaizen activities focused on improving manufacturing performance, efficiency, and productivity.
- Drive OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) improvement initiatives across key production processes.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to improve machine availability and reduce downtime.
- Identify bottleneck processes and implement cycle time improvement activities.
- Develop and maintain long-term continuous improvement plans and monitor progress against targets.
- Lead daily improvement meetings and drive accountability for actions and results.
- Support capacity improvement projects across manufacturing operations.
Quality & Defect Reduction
- Lead scrap and defect reduction activities using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Monitor daily quality performance and analyse trends to identify recurring issues.
- Conduct root cause investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Specify and implement Poka-Yoke (error-proofing) solutions to improve product quality.
- Carry out process capability studies on new and existing manufacturing processes.
- Support customer concern investigations and quality improvement activities.
Production Engineering
- Create detailed specifications for machinery, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment.
- Support standardisation activities to improve consistency and compliance across manufacturing processes.
- Coordinate the introduction of new products, tooling, and process changes through trial builds and production readiness activities.
- Support process validation and production launch activities.
- Assist with equipment demonstrations during customer visits and audits.
Documentation & Compliance
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation including:
- PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
- Process Control Plans
- Standard Operating Procedures
- Work Instructions
- Ensure manufacturing processes comply with relevant health and safety legislation and engineering standards.
- Support adherence to machinery safety requirements, including PUWER and applicable industry standards.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyse production data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring improvement.
- Prepare and present technical reports and project updates to engineering leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Provide detailed analysis of tooling, process, and production performance issues.
- Support project gateway reviews and engineering approval processes.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- HNC/HND in an Engineering discipline or equivalent practical experience.
- Previous experience within a Production Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, or similar role.
- Experience delivering continuous improvement and Kaizen activities within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and problem-solving methodologies.
- Experience using quality tools such as:
- Root Cause Analysis
- 5 Whys
- Fishbone Diagrams
- Statistical Process Control
- Understanding of PFMEA and Process Control Plans.
- Experience conducting process capability studies and analysing manufacturing data.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD data.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
- Engineering Degree.
- Automotive manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of automated manufacturing processes.
- Experience with tooling and press processes.
- Understanding of advanced data analytics, machine learning, or big data applications.
- Experience supporting new product introduction projects.
