Seven Resourcing is currently recruiting for an experienced Specialty Doctor in Substance Misuse and Addiction Psychiatry to join a specialist community service in Bootle, Merseyside.
This is an excellent opportunity for a GMC-registered Specialty Doctor with experience in addiction medicine, substance misuse services, mental health, and community psychiatry to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals affected by drug and alcohol dependency.
The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, evidence-based treatment and recovery-focused interventions to service users with complex substance misuse needs.
Key Responsibilities
As a Specialty Doctor, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric, physical health, and substance misuse assessments.
- Develop and implement personalised treatment and recovery plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide specialist prescribing assessments for individuals experiencing dependency related to opiates, alcohol, stimulants, tranquilizers, barbiturates, and novel psychoactive substances.
- Initiate and review prescribing regimes in line with national legislation, local guidance, and best practice standards.
- Monitor treatment progress through regular clinical reviews, laboratory investigations, and urinalysis results.
- Deliver evidence-based interventions, including motivational interviewing, brief interventions, and cognitive behavioural techniques.
- Support harm reduction initiatives, including overdose prevention, blood-borne virus screening, and hepatitis vaccination programmes.
- Work closely with GPs, social services, prison services, community mental health teams, and voluntary sector organisations.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical audits, governance activities, and service development projects.
- Provide clinical supervision, advice, and support to nursing teams, non-medical prescribers, and less experienced medical colleagues.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive electronic patient records and clinical documentation.
- Contribute to research activities and quality improvement initiatives within addiction services.
Requirements
To be considered for this Substance Misuse Doctor role, you must have:
Essential Requirements
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a Licence to Practise.
- Completion of Basic Medical Training.
- MRCPsych qualification or equivalent.
- Section 12 approval.
- Demonstrable experience delivering evidence-based treatments within substance misuse, addiction medicine, or mental health services.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and alongside partner agencies.
- Knowledge of addiction psychiatry, mental health legislation, and recovery-focused practice.
- Experience participating in clinical audit and governance activities.
- Strong understanding of clinical prescribing for substance misuse treatment.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and IT skills.
