44.5 hours per week Monday - Saturday inline with shop opening hours
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Butcher Shop Assistant to join our team. This role involves supporting daily operations in a busy butcher shop, ensuring high standards of food safety, quality, and customer service. The ideal candidate will have experience in food handling, preparation, and meat cutting, with a passion for delivering exceptional service in a food industry setting. This position offers an opportunity to develop culinary skills and gain valuable experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and packaging of meat products according to shop standards
- Operate knives and meat-cutting equipment safely and efficiently for slicing, trimming, and portioning meats
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, tools, and equipment in compliance with food safety regulations
- Support the inventory management by stocking shelves and organizing products for easy access
- Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, offering product recommendations, and ensuring customer satisfaction
- Follow all food safety protocols during handling, storage, and preparation of meat products
- Assist with other kitchen or shop duties as needed to ensure smooth daily operations
Skills
- Proven experience in food production, preparation, or related roles within the food industry or restaurant environment
- Strong knife skills and proficiency in meat cutting techniques
- Knowledge of food safety standards and proper food handling procedures
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Experience with packaging and labelling food products is preferred
- Culinary experience or kitchen background is a plus but not required
- Familiarity with food industry regulations and sanitation practices
