Learning Support Assistant (Year 2 & Reception) – Esher Area | Start ASAP
A welcoming and supportive primary school in the Esher area is seeking experienced and committed Learning Support Assistants to join their team as soon as possible. The school is currently recruiting for:
- A Year 2 Learning Support Assistant working 1:1 with a pupil with ADHD
- A Reception Learning Support Assistant to support pupils within the Early Years setting
Year 2 LSA Role
The role will involve working 1:1 with a Year 2 pupil who has a diagnosis of ADHD. He is a bright and capable learner, particularly confident in maths and English, but requires additional emotional and social support. While there are no behavioural concerns, he is very high energy and benefits from clear routines, structure, and a calm, consistent approach.
Socially, he is working at a younger level and needs support developing relationships with peers. He responds best to a nurturing adult who can build trust, provide reassurance, and help him regulate throughout the day. He has a close relationship with his family, who are fully supportive of the school, and he particularly enjoys topics like Star Wars, which can be used as a great engagement tool.
The school is open-minded regarding the candidate, though they have noted he may respond particularly well to a male role model. Ultimately, they are looking for someone patient, empathetic, and experienced in supporting children with ADHD.
Reception LSA Role
The Reception position will involve supporting children within the Early Years classroom, helping pupils settle into school routines, supporting early learning and development, and assisting with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation. The school is looking for a nurturing and proactive individual who enjoys working with younger children and can contribute positively to a caring EYFS environment.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have previous experience supporting children with additional needs or within EYFS
- Be calm, consistent, and nurturing in their approach
- Be able to establish clear routines and boundaries
- Support children’s social development and peer interactions
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCO, and parents
- Be enthusiastic, patient, and committed to supporting children’s progress
